There has been a lot of buzz in the stock photography community about Getty’s partnership with LeanIn.org to create a collection of stock photography “devoted to the powerful depiction of women, girls and the people who support them”. Even Buzzfeed wrote about this stock photography collection in their article 44 Stock Photos That Hope To Change The Way We Look At Women, which has been shared by several of my friends on social media.
I think their photos are great! Â I know many designers who would love to go on a stock photography site, search for something like “doctor,” and find doctors, not men with cheesy grins holding comically large syringes and women wearing “sexy” Halloween costumes. Â But it’s not a new idea. Â I would argue that this change has already happened, and designers may just not know where to look.
My stock photography agency, Stocksy, has a variety of styles in their collection, but one of the main things they have requested from photographers is authentic photos of “real” people doing real things. Â So I thought I’d take this opportunity to share some amazing images from my fellow Stocksy photographers.
As a bonus, Stocksy’s photos are less expensive than the photos on Getty, and Stocksy pays its photographers 50% commission (plus 100% on extended licenses, plus dividends), versus Getty’s 20%. Not convinced?  Check out Sean Locke’s article “Seven Reasons to Try Out Stocksy.”
